Xero requires all transactions to be 'to' or 'from' someone for reporting purposes. The system therefore automatically creates a new contact whenever it's unclear who your money is going to or coming from.
This is expected behaviour designed by Xero, but it can create a bit of a mess in your contacts, especially if the same merchant is created several times.
We've noticed this can happen when importing data from Pleo, so we've improved the experience and made 'Pleo transaction' the single contact in Xero:
The details of the merchant can now be found the 'Reference' column to the right. Going forward, all transactions imported to Xero will simply have 'Pleo transaction' as their contact.
